I use Person Centred Therapy to make sure the client is at the centre of each session. At times, we all need someone to talk to in a non-judgemental environment. I can offer space and believe talking honestly and openly is the start of the journey.
I worked in the corporate world for over 30 years but as time went on I realised that most of my management time was spent working through issues such as anxiety, stress, motivation and self-confidence with the staff. This led to my interest in peoples issues as many colleagues needed an impartial ear, however in a work environment this isn’t readily available. Whilst still working in the corporate world, I started training as a Person Centred Counsellor and realised that this was where my heart lay, so eventually I left that world completely and now concentrate fully on counselling.
In addition to my private practice, I also work as a counsellor at Mind which has given me a huge wealth of experience. I highly value the work that Mind do within our communities.
Talking therapy puts the client at the centre of each session, in an empathic and trustworthy environment, enabling you to explore issues that cause you problems, it has certainly helped me develop into a stronger and more resilient person with a much different outlook on life than when I first began this journey.
As Carl Rogers says “People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, "Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner." I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.” (Carl R Rogers: A Way of Being)
